Georgia heroes receive honor
Two Georgia men have been honored with Carnegie metals for heroism. 48-year-old DeWayne D. Rodgers of Cumming helped save a man, his two sons and two daughters from a house fire in Cumming in August 2006. 52-year-old Steve Linder of Macon was also honored for rescuing a woman from a burning car December 2006. Industrialist Andrew Carnegie started funding the $5,000 awards in 1904 after being inspired by rescue stories from a mine disaster that killed 181 people.

Carnegie mansion to debut, again
A Cumberland Island mansion is on schedule to re-open in about a month. The 22,000 square foot Plum Orchard mansion was built in 1898 by the Carnegie family. It has undergone a $3-million dollar facelift over the past year-and-a-half. The National Park Service plans more renovations over the coming decade with original pieces including four Tiffany lamps, a grand piano and tables and chairs.
