Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle is set to undergo surgery later today at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Cagle has a degenerative spine and neck condition. Back on April 15th, he cited his health as the reason for forcing him from the 2010 race for Governor. The Gainesville Republican says he will still seek re-election as lieutenant Governor.

Author Margaret Anne Barnes dies
Funeral services were held Sunday in Newnan for author Margaret Anne Barnes. The son of the 80-year-old Barnes said she died Thursday evening at Emory Hospital in Atlanta after a long battle with emphysema. Barnes wrote several books detailing landmark events in Southern history. Her 1976 book “Murder in Coweta County” won the Edgar Allen Poe award and later was made into a TV-movie.
