First-ever civilian commander at Fort Gordon
The new second-in-command at Fort Gordon in Augusta will be a civilian for the first time. Joe Capps will take-over in the role of deputy commander this fall. It will mark the first time a non-Army officer has held the position. Capps has worked for the Army for nearly 20 years, and will be leaving a job in Arizona. At Fort Gordon, Capps' main role will be to run all training schools at the facility.
