"Barbie bandits" sentenced

The so-called "Barbie bandits" duo has been sentenced--one to jail and the other to probation.

The two participated in a bank heist in Acworth in February 2007 then went on a shopping spree.

Nineteen-year-old Ashley Miller will have to serve only two years of a 10-year sentence and must complete the rest on probation. Her co-bandit Heather Johnston received ten years' probation.

The bank teller and co-defendant – Benny Allen – will serve 5 of his 10-year sentence. Michael Chastang, a co-defendant convicted of plotting the robbery will appear before the judge today.

"Barbie Bandit" pleads guilty

One of two young women who gained national notoriety as the so-called "Barbie Bandits" pleaded guilty today. 19-year-old Heather Johnston entered the pleas in Cobb County Superior Court to theft by taking and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Johnston made a tearful apology telling the judge she regrets what she did. Johnston and her friend Ashley Miller are charged with robbing an Acworth bank in February then going on a shopping spree.
