Georgia sports for Monday, May 28th
The Braves suffered a 13-6 loss to the Phillies Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. With that defeat, the Braves were swept in the 3-game series from Turner Field.
Starting pitcher Kyle Davies was roughed-up right away in the 1st inning, as he allowed a pair of 2-run homers. The Phillies' Ryan Howard knocked 2 home runs in the game. For the Braves offensively, home runs for Andruw Jones and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. For Saltalamacchia, it was the 1st major league homer for the rookie.
With the loss, the Braves have fallen to 4-and-a-half games behind the NL-East leading New York Mets. The Braves are now back on the road, opening a series in Milwaukee this afternoon.
The field for the NCAA Baseball Tournament will be announced at 12:30 pm. Georgia Tech's team hopes to get an invitation. It has been a tougher season for the Yellow Jackets: a 32-25 mark, including losses in 8 of their last 10 games. Tech lost a school-record 14 regular season games inside the ACC.
