Carrollton mother faces charges in daughter's death

The mother of a 5-year-old Carollton girl who wandered away from her home and was mauled to death by a neighbor's dog, is facing a bond hearing on charges of reckless conduct and involuntary manslaughter.

Authorities say 41-year-old Florence Pauley took methamphetamine during the morning of her daughter's disappearance and following death. Police say Pauley's ability to supervise her daughter was affected.

The girl who had Down syndrome, was found dead last Thursday near a chained Rottweiler in a nearby unfenced yard.

Rottweiler Killed Child In Carrollton

Carroll County authorities say a five-year-old girl was probably killed by a chained Rottweiler dog in a neighbor’s yard.

Tiffany Pauley who had Down Syndrome had been missing for a couple of hours when she was found.

"We're waiting for an investigative file and we're looking at the relevant statute concerning animals in situations like this," says Jeff Hunt with the Carrol County District Attorney's office. "We don't know what legal action can be taken until all that is completed."

The girl was dead in the backyard, lying close to a Rottweiler that was on a chain. The initial investigation indicates she had wandered up to the dog and was killed.
