Georgia sports for Friday, November 2nd

Georgia Tech was stung badly by Virginia Tech last night in college football action from Atlanta, 27-3. The 11th-ranked Hokies had Sean Glennon throw 2 touchdown passes, and run for another. It was a bad night for Ga Tech quarterbacks: Taylor Bennett threw 4 interceptions, and replacement Josh Nesbitt late in the game threw a 5th for the Jackets. Ga Tech’s record fell to 5-4 overall, while Virginia Tech improved to 7-2.

Ahead for tomorrow in college ball, the Georgia Bulldogs are on home turf in Athens to face Troy. NFL Sunday, the Falcons host San Francisco. And another full slate of high school football is on tap for this evening across the state.

NBA-—the Atlanta Hawks open their season tonight with some optimism out of a 7-1 preseason. The Hawks have not made the playoffs this century.

On the ice, the Thrashers last night lost on the road at Ottawa, 6-4. 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd period-—3 by Ilya Kovalchuk-—were not enough in the end. It was the Thrashers’ 1st loss in 3 games.
