The first Georgian is set to serve on the board of directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority. The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved Thomas Gilliland of Blairsville for the spot. The TVA delivers power to nearly 130,000 northwest Georgia households and to several other southeastern states.

First Georgian nominated for TVA board
The first Georgian in history could be elected to the Tennessee Valley Authority board. Thomas Gilliland is from Blairsville. The TVA delivers power to some 123,000 households in northern Georgia, but no Georgian before Gilliland has ever been nominated to serve on the TVA board.
