A suburban Atlanta county is abandoning, for now, a new proposal on day-laborers that could conflict with federal immigration law. Cobb County lawmakers say they’ll table a plan to ban day laborers from gathering on public property or in parking lots. Opponents say the measure targets Hispanic immigrants who gather at places like Home Depot looking for day work. Last month Cobb County angered immigrant advocates by limiting the number of adults who can live in one house. Cobb County commissioners have argued the ordinances promote safety.
