Governor Sonny Perdue will be dipping into the state’s reserve fund to help cover a shortfall in the Georgia budget. The end of the fiscal year June 30th showed the state was about 600-million dollars in the red. Perdue says he was not surprised by the deficit, but was surprised by the size of the amount. Sales tax receipts were down 9.4 percent in June--for the fiscal year now complete, down 2.3 percent. The 600-million will be pulled from Georgia’s 1.5 billion reserve fund.
