Attorneys for a man convicted of killing two Mercer University students told the Georgia Supreme Court today that he should not get the death penalty because he is mentally ill. Andrew Allen Cook was sentenced to death in March 1998 after he was convicted of shooting Grant Patrick Henderson and Michele Lee Cartagena two decades ago. Cook was 21 at the time. Lawyers for the state argued that while Cook was found to have mental issues, those issues were not enough to offset a death sentence.
