Another College Student Robbed at Gunpoint

Another college student has been robbed at gunpoint at the same apartment complex near Georgia Tech for the second day in a row.

Eric Mills is a student at University of Phoenix, a national college with six campuses in the Atlanta area.

Mills said he was walking to his apartment in the Centennial Place complex about 1 a.m. Wednesday when he was attacked by two men wearing masks, and one was armed.

He said they asked for his phone, but he threw his backpack down and told them it contained his laptop. They later took the backpack after the man with the gun threatened to shoot Mills. Eventually several cars showed up and them men got back in their car and left.

Armed robbery suspect applied for job at heist

Police didn't have to do much guesswork to identify a suspect in the armed robbery of an Athens convenience store.

Authorities say 28-year-old Demetrius Robinson filled out a job application before wielding a knife and robbing the Golden Pantry store last week. He left his real name and his uncle's phone number on the sheet but diverted police for several days with a phony address.

An official at Clarke County Jail said Robinson remained at the jail on Sunday. It was not immediately known if Robinson had an attorney. A spokeswoman with Athens-Clarke police did not immediately return a message for comment on Sunday.

Police arrested Robinson early Saturday morning on armed robbery charges after getting an anonymous tip to his whereabouts. Investigators say he filled out the application to kill time until the store emptied of customers.

Authorities say Robinson is also suspect in several other armed robberies.
