A U-S Department of Education report card shows Georgia falls short of federal requirements in teaching students with disabilities. Georgia is among four-fifths of states in that designation.
First-ever report cards graded states across the nation, and showed only nine fully meet requirements of the Indviduals with Disabilities Education Act. The main part of the law involves a 10.5 billion dollar program to provide students from ages 3 to 21 with special programs to fit their needs. Georgia is labeled as "needs assistance". States in that category or lower must improve or face penalties such as the loss of federal money.
