Strip Club Fee Proposed

People who go to strip clubs could face a new fee. Republican State Sen. Jack Murphy of Cumming says he'd like to see the state charge between $3 and $5 for every club goer. Murphy said Monday he would like to funnel the money to child abuse programs and other services for young people who are caught up in child prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation. Some of those services have been cut this year as Georgia has slashed its budget amid falling revenues. About $500,000 in state funding was cut for the Georgia Regional Assessment, a therapy center for former child prostitutes.

Town buys strip club to close it

A northeast Georgia town has bought a strip club to shut it down. Lavonia in Franklin County bought Club Risque along Interstate 85, which was popular with truckers. After the purchase the city burned the billboards advertising the clubs. The city has also passed an ordinance outlawing adult entertainment businesses.

Atlanta police seek NFL star

Police are seeking troubled NFL star Adam “Pacman” Jones in connection with a shooting early Monday outside an Atlanta strip club.

Atlanta police say the Tennessee Titans cornerback had argued with a group of men over a woman. The men left the club in a Toyota Sequoia. Police believe members of Jones’ entourage followed them in two cars, and opened fire. One person was injured.

Jones had left the scene, however, before things got violent. Police only want to question him as a witness.

The NFL has suspended Jones for a year following an earlier shooting at a Las Vegas strip club. Jones, 23, has been arrested five times. He attended Westlake High School in Atlanta.
