The trial of the accused Atlanta courthouse killer is suspended until September. Today a judge pushed the trial back another five and a half months because of problems funding Brian Nichols’ defense. Nichols is accused of killing four people in March 2005 while fleeing the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta. Questioning of potential jurors was supposed to start next month, but now won’t begin until September 10th. The state public defender’s office is facing serious budget shortfalls. The state legislature could allot more money, but that would take several months. At last count, Nichols’ defense had already cost the state $1.4 million dollars.
