Developers want to rezone a 21,000-acre wildlife area near Macon. According to the Macon Telegraph, owners of the Oaky Woods Wildlife Management Area want to construct a wastewater treatment plant. The plant would allow the owners to build 30,000 homes on the property. Nearby towns will be able to weigh in on how the treatment plant will impact their regions. That process will take about a month. The state has leased the land for 30 years. During that time it served as popular hunting grounds and a wildlife habitat for black bears.
