Delta welcomes new CEO

Delta Air Lines' new CEO, Richard Anderson, says he will apply his industry experience to keeping the airlines afloat and pressing for changes in the national aviation system.

At Delta's main ticket counter in Atlanta's airport, the "Welcome Aboard" banner is meant for customers, but it seems to be a message for Anderson too.

He most recently served as vice president at United Health Group, but he ran Northwest Airlines from 2001 to 2004. Anderson says that makes him more than qualified for the position:

"[A] tremendous amount of international experience; I know airports. I know airplanes and I know airline operations and have basically worked at one time or another in my career in just about every area of an airline."

Anderson says he plans to continue Delta's international growth with more daily non-stop flights across the globe.

As for changes, Anderson says he will lobby lawmakers to change the way the nation's air traffic control system is funded. As of now, passengers foot most of the bill.
