Governor Sonny Perdue says a new distribution center in East Point shows Georgia has established itself as a major retail hub.
National chain Dick’s Sporting Goods will invest 23-million dollars and create nearly 500 jobs when their facility is up-and-running next summer in Atlanta.
Just a few weeks ago, retailer Target announced it is building a distribution center near Savannah. Governor Perdue says moving goods through Georgia makes sense.
"We are a natural home for distribution centers…we just announced a record year for our Georgia Ports, more than 21 million tons of products came through our ports system in 2006".
The Savannah Ports this week were recognized as the 4th busiest and fastest growing container terminal in the country.
