A Georgia military hospital is leading the nation in treating soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Augusta VA Medical Center is the only VA hospital in the U.S. giving inpatient care to active duty soldiers. Normally a VA hospital doesn’t treat active military personnel, but this is a partnership with Eisenhower Army Medical Center at nearby Fort Gordon. The unit has treated more than a thousand service members for spinal injuries, amputations, and brain damage.
