A Georgia lawmaker pre-filed a bill this week that would loosen the state’s gun laws and extend the reach of where weapons can be carried. Representative Tim Beardon of Villa Rica calls his bill the 2nd Amendment Protection Act.
He wants to make sure gun owners who have a concealed carry permit can keep their weapons anywhere in a car -- and can take them to public gatherings. Beardon says Georgia’s current laws are more restrictive than those of other states.
Bearden championed similar legislation last year, but it got tangled up with a bill pushed by the National Rifle association that would allow employees to keep guns in their cars at work. That measure stalled after tough opposition from Georgia’s business community.
Beardon’s latest bill let’s businesses decide whether to allow guns on their property. It goes before lawmakers in January.
