Members of a church in West Georgia are picking through the smoky remains of their burned out church today. The state Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s office says the predominantly black House of the Living God Church of Jesus Christ in Manchester near Columbus was destroyed last night in an arson.
Deacon Joe Branford says, he’s in shock. “It’s just a wonder,” Brandford says. “We’ve been here for over 20-years and we’ve never had any problems nowhere with anybody.”
The Center for Arson Research says, about 200-300 churches each year are torched in arsons. Only about 80% of the cases are solved.
