Gas company compensates customers

One of Georgia’s leading natural gas marketers will compensate customers who say they were misled and overcharged through price changes.

Georgia Natural Gas agreed to give 25 dollar credits to long-time variable rate customers, but its total payments will not exceed 2. 5 million.

Two retailers were involved in the dispute—the other, SCANA. SCANA rejected the settlement. The Public Service Commission voted yesterday to formally investigate the company’s variable rates.

Both companies denied wrong-doing by starting cheaper variable rate plans to attract new customers. The long-time customers stayed on their plans unless they asked to be switched.
