Georgia sports for Friday, August 8th

Atlanta Braves--

A good start for the Braves in their weekend series at Arizona. It was a 6-4 win for the club over the Diamondbacks in the first of 4 games in Phoneix. Pitcher Charlie Morton turned-in a solid effort, going 7 scoreless innings with 5 hits allowed. Offensively, outfielder Mark Kotsay drilled a home run, while shortstop Yunel Escobar had 2 hits and 2 RBI's.

Atlanta Falcons/NFL preseason--

The Falcons under new head coach Mike Smith will be in Jacksonville tomorrow night to play their first pre-season game. Chris Redman is expected to get the start at quarterback. The team's top draft pick, quarterback Matt Ryan, is expected to get playing time sometime in the contest as well.
