Atlanta panda cub gains weight, grows hair

Atlanta's new panda cub is finally beginning to look like his parents. The infant born Aug. 31 is now covered in the black and white fur typical to giant pandas. Panda babies are born hairless, pink and about the size of a stick of butter. Atlanta's cub now weighs more than 2 pounds, up from the 4 ounces he weighed at birth. Zookeepers expect him to open his eyes for the first time in the next few days. The zoo will hold a naming ceremony for the cub in December, about 100 days after his birth, which follows Chinese tradition. The cub is the zoo's second baby panda. Mei Lan was born in 2006 to the same mother, Lun Lun.
