As is the trend in much of the nation, the political impact of the Wall Street troubles is felt in here at home. Especially by politicians. After the Republican Convention, John McCain’s polling numbers jumped in Georgia leaving Barak Obama 18 points behind in one poll. At that time the Obama campaign stopped running TV adds in the state. But new polls taken after the first Presidential debate and with the economy fresh on voters mind, have pushed McCain's numbers to just over fifty percent in some polls. Obama is at 44 percent. The same polls also show the gap narrowing between incumbent Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss and Democratic rival Jim Martin. In that poll Libertarian senatorial candidate Alan Buckley gets 5 percent, the highest yet for the candidate.
