Spanking could be banned from an east Georgia school system's rule book. Columbia County's school board will consider deleting a spanking policy at tonight's meeting. The policy allows for corporal punishment with parental authorization, and requires that parents be notified when such punishment is applied. A spokesperson says when officials came across the spanking policy, they realized nobody had used it for "many years" - and officials didn't want anyone to start. Several Georgia counties do have corporal punishment as part of school discipline policy.
