County looks to ban school spanking

Spanking could be banned from an east Georgia school system's rule book. Columbia County's school board will consider deleting a spanking policy at tonight's meeting. The policy allows for corporal punishment with parental authorization, and requires that parents be notified when such punishment is applied. A spokesperson says when officials came across the spanking policy, they realized nobody had used it for "many years" - and officials didn't want anyone to start. Several Georgia counties do have corporal punishment as part of school discipline policy.

Drought pits neighbor vs. neighbor

Georgia’s drought is pitting some neighbors against each other.

Police in Columbia County east of Augusta say they’re getting up to 10 calls a day from people reporting their neighbor’s water violations. Now, the county is disconnecting repeat violators’ water supply. So far, almost 50 households have had water disconnected this drought season because of violating the rules.

Police in Roswell north of Atlanta say they’re also getting calls from people reporting their neighbors’ water violations.
