Waynesboro plant set to close

Three years after it opened, an Indiana-based company is shutting its doors in southeast Georgia.

Cummins Filtration has announced that it is looking for someone to buy its Waynesboro facility.

The plant makes small exhaust components for lawn and garden equipment.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports the plant has been unprofitable since it opened in 2003.

Cummins Filtration Company was founded nearly 5 decades ago.

The Waynesboro plant employs 250 full-time employees and 80 temporary workers.

All employees will be offered a bonus if they stay on until this year’s production cycle is complete.

A definitive closing date has not been announced.
