Egg company won't build farm

A Gainesville company that produces and ships eggs is dropping plans to build an egg farm in Banks County in northeast Georgia. Country Charms Eggs pursued rezoning to allow an egg farm. However public opposition has led the company to scrap plans.

Egg farm rejected

A giant egg farm won’t be moving into Madison County, north of Athens. Last night County Commissioners rejected a request to re-zone nearly 200 acres for the Country Charms Eggs facility. The company needed the re-zoning to build a dozen chicken houses that would hold 1-and-a-half million hens. Opponents said the so-called farm would have been more like a factory.
