UGA football wraps season with bowl win

The Georgia Bulldogs wrapped their football season in victory--a 24-12 decision over the Michigan State Spartans in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando New Year's Day. The Bulldogs close their season with a 10-3 record. Georgia posted its 6th 10-win season in Mark Richt's 8 years as Bulldogs head coach.

Junior quarterback Matthew Stafford was named the game's MVP. He and redshirt sophmore running back Knowshon Moreno perhaps played their final game in a Georgia uniform. The standout players are considering leaving school early for the NFL Draft. Underclassmen have a January 15th deadline for a decision.

Georgia sports roundup--Friday, Nov. 7th

College football--

The weekend ahead features Saturday games for Georgia, Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern. Georgia's 14th-ranked Bulldogs are on the road to face Kentucky in Lexington at 12:30. The Bulldogs are off a blowout loss to Florida last week--Georgia looks to improve a 7-2 record. Tech's Yellow Jackets are ranked 22nd in the nation, also on the road at #19 North Carolina for a noon kickoff Saturday. Tech brings their 7-2 record to the contest. In Statesboro, Georgia Southern with their 5-4 record will play host to Samford at noon.

High School football--

Getting close to the playoffs, GPB offers another featured webcast game of the week tonight at 7:30. Brookstone plays at Schley County. You can watch the game online at gpb.org/football.

Georgia Southern football players suspended

Eight Georgia Southern University players are suspended for the season opener against No. 1 Georgia. Football head coach Chris Hatcher released a statement Wednesday announcing the suspensions resulting from a "violation of institutional rules." Raja Andrews, Charwell Brown, Brandavious Mann, Terrione Benefield and Damon Suggs will miss the Aug. 30 game. Zeke Rozier, Garryon Taylor and Ronnie Wiggins are suspended for two games. Benefield and Wiggins are projected starters.

Georgia sports for Wednesday, December 26th

College football bowl practice continues for the teams of Georgia and Georgia Tech. Georgia's Bulldogs are working in their leadup to a January 1st evening matchup against Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl from New Orleans. For the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech, a December 31st game against Fresno State in the Humanitarian Bowl is fast approaching.

From the NBA, the Atlanta Hawks look to keep their roll going tonight, aiming for a 4th straight home victory. The Hawks are hosting the Indiana Pacers this evening. In the big picture, the Hawks have won 8 of their past 11 games.

Georgia sports for Thursday, November 1st

There is college football action ahead tonight for Georgia Tech. They'll be on their home turf in Atlanta to tangle with Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech's Yellow Jackets enter the game with a 5-3 record, looking for a win to bolster their post-season bowl game hopes, and a chance to win the ACC's Coastal Division. Virginia Tech comes into tonight on the 6-2 mark. Georgia Tech has an injury problem at running back with their top two options both out for this evening: Tashard Choice and Raushaun Grant.
