Heat wave claims third victim in Georgia

A third heat-related death has been reported in Georgia. Authorities in Albany say 76-year-old Jesse June Irvin was found collapsed on the back patio of her home Friday. This follows the deaths of a Floyd County man and Atlanta woman in the past week due to heat-related causes.

Several Georgia cities hit triple digits again on Wednesday--the high was 104 in Macon. Forecasters expect temperatures to remain in the mid 90's to low 100's into the weekend.

Second heat-related death reported in Georgia

There has been a second heat-related death reported in Georgia. Authorities say 65-year-old Charles Holcomb was found dead in his Floyd County mobile home Monday.
The air conditioning in Holcomb's home was not working. This follows the death of 87-year-old Ruby Cofer of Atlanta--Fulton County officials confirm she died as a result of the heat in her apartment.

Record heat continues across the state

Georgians can expect another day of record high temperatures today, after record-marks were set on Thursday. Augusta was the hottest spot in the state yesterday, posting a mark of 106 degrees. Record-highs in triple digits were posted as well in Athens, Macon, and Atlanta.

For today, parts of central and southeast Georgia are under an extreme heat warning. There is the heat advisory elsewhere, except for the mountains. High temperatures forecast today are expected between 100-105. except for 90's in the mountains and along the coast.

Georgia Power says about five-thousand customers in the metro Atlanta area lost power. Officials say increased demand caused some transformers to burn-out. A bulk of the customers were based south of Atlanta-—near Jonesboro, Fayette County and near Newnan.
