Georgia's record high temperatures have led to at least one death. 87-year-old Ruby Cofer was found dead in her Atlanta apartment Sunday. Authorities say that when her body was found, the windows to her apartment were closed and the air conditioning was turned off. Cofer's was the first Georgia death officially linked to weather. Today's high is expected to reach 98 degrees and tomorrow is expected to hit 101.

Power goes out on another hot day
Some people woke up without air conditioning this morning, on the third day of triple-digit temperatures.
About 5,000 metro Atlanta customers lost power earlier as increased demand burned out transformers.
Georgia Power says about 200 customers remained without power this morning.
Georgia Power says customers should conserve energy by setting thermostats at 78 degrees. A spokeswoman says the average air conditioner can only cool 20 degrees below the outside temperature. She advises customers not to use irons, dryers and ovens during the extreme heat since those appliances add heat inside the house.
The National Weather Service reports that the mercury yesterday hit 106 degrees in Augusta, 105 in Athens, 103 in Albany, Cartersville and Macon, 102 in Rome and 100 in Alma, Columbus and Gainesville. Both Athens and Macon eclipsed their records for the day.

Beware the heat
The heat and humidity are shattering records.
In Brunswick, the heat index hit 126 degrees today.
At Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, the temperature hit 103 for the first time.
Needless to say, the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for parts of Central and South Georgia.
There is a heat advisory everywhere else, except in the northeast mountains.

High school football player collapses
Officials with Rockdale County schools have suspended all outdoor activities until at least Saturday after a football player collapsed during practice.
The 16-year-old Heritage High junior collapsed near the end of an afternoon practice session Tuesday. He was treated at a local hospital, later released, and is recovering at home. An official said the heat index was 101 degrees at the start of that practice.
Last summer, a Rockdale County High player died from heat-related injuries.

Excessive heat continues across the state
Triple-digit temperatures hit many parts of the state Wednesday, and are in the forecast again today. Yesterday, three-digit readings were posted in Albany, Augusta, Athens, Macon, Rome, and Atlanta for the first time. The top hot spots in Georgia were Albany and Augusta with 103 degree readings.
Once again, an excessive heat warning is in effect for parts of central and south Georgia today—-a heat advisory is for everyone except those in the northeast mountains.

Record heat continues across Georgia
Albany set the state's high temperature Tuesday--an official reading of 106. There were other triple-digit readings in the state as well, such as 104 in Augusta, and 101 in Athens.
Forecasters say a heat advisory is in effect again for most of Georgia today. There is an excessive heat warning for those in portions of central and east-central Georgia.
Officials with Ga Power report they set a record on Monday for one-day power demand from customers. They say it’s possible another record could be set later this week.
