Former GA Tech employee sentenced

A former accountant at the Georgia Institute of Technology charged with using state credit cards for personal use has been sentenced to three years and eight months in federal prison. Donna Gamble of Marietta pleaded guilty to stealing more than $300,000 from the school. The 43-year-old Gamble admitted purchasing more than 3,800 personal items, including a $1,900 margarita mixer, over a five-year period. She created phony receipts and made false entries in accounting records to conceal the charges.

North Gwinnett Wins In First Dome Visit


The North Gwinnett Bulldogs are headed to the AAAAA finals next week after defeating the Walton Raiders today in the GHSA Football Semifinals. Going into the second half, the Bulldogs led the Raiders 24-0. Both teams picked up a single touchdown in the last half, for a final score of 31-7. This was the first trip the Georgia Dome for North Gwinnett.

Next week, North Gwinnett will play the winner of the Lowndes - Camden County game.

Three of nation's worst nursing homes are in Georgia

The federal government has put out its list of America’s worst nursing homes. Three are in Georgia. They are - Laurel Baye Healthcare of Lake Lanier, in Buford; The Place at Augusta, in Augusta; and Shoreham at Marietta, in Marietta. The list is published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Report: Atlanta suburb taking too much water

A suburban Atlanta water provider may be drawing too much water out of a federal reservoir. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers warned the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority today that it has taken too much water from Lake Allatoona. The water authority has 10 days to respond. The analysis comes days after the governors of Georgia, Alabama and Florida gathered in Washington over water-sharing problems that have festered for the better part of two decades.

Five more staph infections reported

Five more Atlanta area students have been diagnosed with antibiotic-resistant staph infections. The latest cases involve two students at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, two students at Osborne High School in Marietta and one student at Southside High School in Atlanta. The schools say they are disinfencting the students’ classrooms and common areas. Staph infections have spread through schools nationwide in recent weeks.
