Fed court: Handel vs. DOJ on immigration checks

Georgia’s top elections official is sparring with the state’s lead attorney over new voting procedures. Earlier this week, a federal panel said Georgia’s Secretary of State should have sought U.S. Justice Department approval to use Social Security numbers and driver's license data to verify immigration status. Secretary of State Karen Handel’s office said the state attorney office was responsible for sending the voting changes to Washington. However, Attorney General Thurbert Baker's office said responded saying the Secretary of State never presented the new rules process to his staff.
