Georgia sports for Thursday, June 26th

Georgia Bullogs/College World Series--

Georgia's dream of a 2nd college baseball championship ended Wednesday night in Omaha, Nebraska. Fresno State's Bulldogs beat Georgia's Bulldogs 6-1 to claim the 2008 College World Series title. Fresno's scoring came courtesy of Steve Detwiler's 2 home runs and 6 RBI's. Gordon Beckham homered for Georgia's only run of the game. UGA was hoping to add to their previous baseball title in 1990--Fresno enjoys their 1st-ever baseball championship.

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves bounced-back to top the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 in Atlanta Wednesday afternoon, salvaging 1 in the 3-game series. Kelly Johnson had 3 RBI's within the Braves' offense. Jorge Campillo recorded the pitching win, with 4 hits and 2 runs allowed over 7 innings.

Georgia sports for Wednesday, June 25th

Georgia Bulldogs/College World Series--

The Georgia Bulldogs will go to a third and deciding game tonight for the championship of college baseball. Last night in Omaha, Nebraska, Georgia blew a 5-0 lead to lose to Fresno State 19-10. Fresno scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 6-5 edge, and they would go on to score 15 runs across a 3-inning stretch. Game-time tonight is 7pm from Omaha, Nebraska.

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves fell by the 4-3 final to the Milwaukee Brewers in Atlanta. Down 4-1 in the 9th inning, the Braves got a 2-run homer from 1st baseman Mark Teixeira, but it wasn’t enough. Atlanta concludes the series and homestand this afternoon, looking to salvage 1 of the 3 games in the matchup.

Georgia sports for Tuesday, June 24th

Georgia Bulldogs/College World Series--

The Georgia Bulldogs are one victory away from capturing their second college baseball championship. Last night in Omaha, Nebraska, Georgia stormed back from down 3 runs late to beat Fresno State 7-6. It was the opener of the best-of-3 championship series. Down 6-3, Georgia scored 4 runs in the 8th inning. Fresno State went down in 3 straight batters in their 9th inning at the plate to end the game. A win by Georgia tonight would bring the Bulldogs their 2nd baseball title since their first in 1990.

Atlanta Braves--

From major league baseball, the Braves in Atlanta were 4-1 losers to the Milwaukee Brewers. Braves’ batters had little success against Milwaukee starting pitcher Ben Sheets, who scattered 4 hits in throwing a complete game.

Georgia sports for Monday, June 23rd

Georgia Bulldogs/College World Series--

The Georgia Bulldogs are two wins away from the college baseball championship. Georgia will face Fresno State tonight in the first of a best-of-3-games championship series in Omaha,Nebraska, the culmination of the College World Series. Over the weekend, Georgia beat Stanford a second time to get to this final championship round.

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves ripped the Seattle Mariners 8-3 in Atlanta--the Braves winning 2-of-3 from the team with the worst record in baseball. 1st baseman Mark Teixeira knocked 3 home runs in the game, his first home runs in 12 games. Tim Hudson threw a solid 7 scoreless innings for the pitching win. With the victory, the Braves moved to within 4 games of 1st place in the National League’s East Division. They’ll begin a series against the Milwaukee Brewers in Atlanta tonight.

Georgia sports for Monday, June 16th

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves lost the finale of their series in Anaheim against the Angels, falling 2-0 last night. Wasted was the complete game effort of starting pitcher Jorge Campillo, who allowed 7 hits in 8 innings of work. His only mistake came in the 4th inning, surrendering a 2-run homer to Casey Kotchman. The Braves' offense meanwhile, had trouble solving Angels' starter Joe Saunders--the Braves had 6 singles on the night.
The Braves did win 2-of-3 games in the series, and move on to Denver tonight to face the Colorado Rockies for 1 game, before moving to Texas for 3 games.

Georgia Bulldogs/College World Series--

The Georgia Bulldogs' baseball team is in action tonight from Omaha, Nebraska for their 2nd game in the College World Series. Georgia will face Stanford. Saturday night, the Bulldogs scored the upset win over Miami in their CWS opener.

UGA wins first game in CWS

The University of Georgia baseball team won its opening game in the College World Series Saturday night with a comeback 7-4 win over top-ranked Miami in Omaha, Nebraska. Trailing 4-3 going into their last at-bat in the 9th inning, the Bulldogs scored 4 runs. Georgia relief ace Josh Fields preserved the lead for the win by recording 3 straight outs in the Miami half of the 9th. Georgia will face Stanford Monday night in the winner's bracket of the 8-team field.

Georgia sports for Friday, June 13th

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves went winless in 3 games from Chicago, falling Thursday afternoon to the Cubs 3-2 in 11 innings. The Braves overall have now dropped 6-straight games. Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, Braves-reliever Blaine Boyer gave-up the tying home run. Into the last of the 11th inning, reliever Jeff Ridgway hit Chicago pinch-hitter Reed Johnson with the bases loaded to bring home the winning run. The Braves missed plenty of scoring chances in the contest, including wasting a bases-loaded/no-out chance in the 8th inning. The Braves' scoring came courtesy of Jeff Francouer's 2-run homer. The Braves tonight start a weekend series in California, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

GSU football coach--

Georgia State University introduced its first head coach Thursday afternoon. Bill Curry will take the reigns as the downtown Atlanta school begins its football program, fielding a team to start play in the fall of 2010. Curry signed a 5-year contract.

Georgia/College World Series--

The Georgia Bulldogs are in Omaha, Nebraska getting set for their opening game in the 8-team College World Series field. Georgia is here for a third time in the last 5 years. They'll face top-ranked Miami tomorrow night at 7pm.

Georgia sports for Tuesday, June 10th

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves kick-off a 4-city/10-game road trip tonight with the first of 3 games in Chicago to face the Cubs, who hold the best record in baseball. The Braves have not performed well in games away from Atlanta--their 7 victories stand as the fewest of any team on the road. The trip also includes a trip to Los Angeles to face the Angels, who lead their division in the American League. Veteran 3rd-baseman Chipper Jones is not expected to play tonight. He has a small tear in his right quadriceps.

Georgia-College World Series--

The Bulldogs’ 1st game in the College World Series is set. Georgia will face top-ranked Miami Saturday night at 7pm in Omaha, Nebraska.
