Governors up ante in SEC showdown

The SEC football showdown between Florida and Alabama is coming to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta tomorrow. And the governors of Florida and Alabama have upped the ante on the outcome. The Sunshine State's Gov. Charlie Crist has agreed that if the Gators lose to the Crimson Tide on Saturday, he'll send Alabama Gov. Bob Riley a box of Florida oranges. If the Gators prevail, Riley will ship over a rack of ribs from the famous Dreamland Barbeque in Tuscaloosa. The game is being billed as a showdown between a team known for its power and one famous for its speed.

Legislators snub gator fans

Georgia state lawmakers are weighing in on the war over vanity alumni license plates.

A bill being introduced in the Georgia Legislature could limit alumni tags for out-of-state schools only if the other state returned the favor.

The bill comes amid news that the University of Florida - one of the University of Georgia's biggest rivals - had its application for a state tag approved.

They're just waiting for 1,000 alumni to plunk down $25 apiece to get the plates printed. That
irks state Senator Eric Johnson and state Representative Barry Fleming.

The pair say its virtually impossible to get a Georgia tag in Florida.

Georgia sports for Monday, October 29th

Top series stock car racing from Hampton's Atlanta Motor Speedway saw victory for Jimmie Johnson on Sunday. With that result, Johnson draws to within 3 points of the lead in the chase for the season's Nextel Cup championship. 4-time champ Jeff Gordon leads Johnson in the Chase by the 3 points with 3 races to go.

The college football weekend just wrapped-up included Georgia's win in Jacksonville over Florida on Saturday. The 42-30 victory for the Bulldogs over the Gators pushed Georgia to a 6-2 overall record, and a 4-2 mark in the Southeastern Conference. Georgia's performance moved the team up 10 spots to number-10 in the new Associated Press rankings.

The Georgia Bulldogs celebrated in the end zone early and on the sideline late.

They probably should have hoisted Knowshon Moreno and Matthew Stafford on their shoulders for both.

Moreno ran for a career-high 188 yards and three scores, Stafford threw three touchdown passes and No. 20 Georgia upset ninth-ranked Florida 42-30 on Saturday in a game filled with big plays and momentum shifts.
