Georgia sports for Tuesday, July 17th

It was rough going for the Braves last night in the opener of their series against the Reds, suffering a 10-3 loss at Turner Field.

Starting pitcher Kyle Davies never made it out of the 1st inning, as he never recorded an out before getting the hook from manager Bobby Cox. Davies only faced 5 batters, as he allowed 2 hits, 2 runs, and walked 3. It was the long night for the Braves bullpen—-Oscar Villareal gave up a 3-run homer to Ken Griffey-Jr in the 2nd inning.

The Braves had their 4-game winning streak snapped, but they remain a game-and-a-half behind the Mets for first in the NL-East. The Mets lost their game at San Diego last night.

Georgia sports for Wednesday, June 13th

The Braves opened their series in Minnesota last night with a 7-3 loss to the Twins. Braves starting pitcher Kyle Davies was fine until the 4th inning, as the Twins scored 5 runs. Offensively for Atlanta, home runs in the game from Jeff Francouer and Scott Thorman. Willie Harris added 3 hits. Game-2 of the series this evening from Minneapolis--Chuck James gets the pitching start.

3rd baseman Chipper Jones did not return to the lineup last night, but he could play tonight or tomorrow. He's missed a long stretch of action as he recovers from bruised hands. However, he's hopeful of a return on this road trip, which continues in Cleveland this weekend.

Georgia sports for Thursday, June 7th

The Braves lost again to the Marlins last night to end their 4-game series, the final of 7-4 Wednesday evening. It was a bumpy performance for starting pitcher Kyle Davies, who allowed 6 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings.

The Braves lost 3-of-4 in the Florida series, and in the bigger picture, have dropped 4 of their past 5 games. The Braves now welcome the Chicago Cubs in town for 4 games. Chuck James gets the pitching start at Turner Field this evening.

Georgia sports for Wednesday, June 6th

The Braves split a doubleheader with the Marlins on Tuesday:

The Braves won the afternoon contest, 3-1. Home runs from Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Chris Woodward turned the game in the 7th inning. Braves pitching behind starter Buddy Carlyle and the bullpen held Florida to 3 hits.

The Braves lost the 2nd game, 5-1 last night. The Marlins got a great pitching effort from Rick Vander Hurk, a no-hitter into the 7th inning. He earned his first career victory. John Smoltz took the pitching loss for Atlanta, his record for the season fell to 7-3. The Braves only had 3 hits on offense in the contest.

This afternoon at 1:05, the Braves and Marlins will play their 4th game in the space of 42 hours in this series. Kyle Davies gets the pitching start for Atlanta.

Georiga sports for Friday, June 1st

The Braves out of Thursday's off-day, begin a weekend series in Chicago today. Kyle Davies will get the pitching start against the Cubs--he'll bring a 2-3 record to the mound. As play start today, the Braves are 4-and-a-half games behind the Mets for the lead in the National League East division.
