Georgia sports for Friday, June 15th
On the verge of salvaging one win in the 3-game series at Minnesota, the Braves instead blew a 2-nothing lead in the bottom of the 9th inning, and lost to the Twins 3-2. Minnesota sweeps the series.
Mike Redmond capped the Twins' comeback with an RBI-single off closer Bob Wickman. It ruined a great start by Tim Hudson, who allowed only 2 hits with no runs through
7-and-a-third innings of work. Rafael Soriano got the remaining 2 8th-inning outs, before giving way to Wickman in the 9th. Offensively for Atlanta, Brian McCann hit a solo home run, his first in a month.
The Braves have now lost 9 of their last 12 games--they open a series in Cleveland tonight.

The Braves suffered another loss on the road at Minnesota, falling to the Twins last night 6-nothing. The Braves have now lost 8 of their past 11 games.
Atlanta starting pitcher Chuck James had a rough outing, as he allowed 6 runs on 9 hits--3 of them home runs. The Braves at the plate were handcuffed by the pitching work of Twins' starter Carlos Silva: he threw a complete game in scattering 8 hits. Chipper Jones made a successful return from the disabled list, getting 3 hits in the role of designated hitter.
The series finale is tonight, as Tim Hudson will take the mound in Minnesota. Despite the Braves' recent problems, they remain only 2 games out of 1st in the NL-East division. The Mets lead the Braves and now the Phillies by that 2-game margin.

Georgia sports for Wednesday, June 13th
The Braves opened their series in Minnesota last night with a 7-3 loss to the Twins. Braves starting pitcher Kyle Davies was fine until the 4th inning, as the Twins scored 5 runs. Offensively for Atlanta, home runs in the game from Jeff Francouer and Scott Thorman. Willie Harris added 3 hits. 3rd baseman Chipper Jones did not return to the lineup last night, but he could play tonight or tomorrow. He's missed a long stretch of action as he recovers from bruised hands. However, he's hopeful of a return on this road trip, which continues in Cleveland this weekend.
